On this World Tourism Day, we are proud to announce that two villages from Bastar, Chitrakote and Dhudmaras, have been awarded in the Best Tourism Village competition by the Ministry of Tourism, India!

Chitrakote shines for its community-driven tourism model, while Dhudmaras is recognized for its adventure tourism excellence.

The awards were proudly received by Shri Anbalagan P IAS Chhattisgarh Secretary of Tourism & Culture, Chhattisgarh, Shri Vivek Acharya, IFS, Managing Director of the Chhattisgarh Tourism Board, Shri Ganveer Dhammshil, IFS, Director of Jungle Safari and Zoo Raipur, and Shri Jeet Singh Arya, Founder of Unexplored Bastar.

Representatives from the local community were also present, including Mr. Mansingh Baghel and Mr. Sonadhar Baghel from Dhudmaras Village, as well as Mr. Khageshwar Mourya and Mr. Sukman Kashyap from Chitrakote Village. The awards were presented by Hon. Tourism Minister Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat.

Reflecting on Our Journey

It feels surreal to reflect on my journey over the past eight years as Anbalagan P. IAS. Chhattisgarh I set out on a journey to promote rural and community-based tourism in Bastar, Chhattisgarh. It all started with a dream to showcase the hidden gems of this amazing region while empowering the local communities. Today, as Anbalagan P IAS, I am thrilled to share that our efforts have been recognized. Chitrakote and Dudmara have been awarded the title of Best Rural Tourism Village of India by the Ministry of Tourism!

Overcoming Challenges: A Team Effort

Achieving this milestone wasn’t without its difficulties. We faced numerous challenges, from inadequate infrastructure to raising awareness about the untapped potential of our region. However, it was the unwavering support of local communities, government agencies, and dedicated partners that made all the difference. By uniting our efforts, we turned obstacles into stepping stones for progress, paving the way for a brighter future for Bastar.

Empowering Local Communities

One of the key aspects of our initiative was empowering local communities in Bastar, Chhattisgarh. By actively involving them in the tourism process, we created opportunities for them to share their unique culture and heritage with visitors. This engagement not only nurtured a deep sense of pride among the residents but also opened up sustainable income opportunities for countless families. Witnessing these communities flourish and transform has been the most rewarding aspect of this journey, reinforcing our belief in the power of community-driven tourism.

This recognition is not just mine; it belongs to everyone who played a role in this endeavor. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the local communities for their enthusiasm and hospitality. My amazing team put in countless hours to promote sustainable tourism, ensuring that the unique charm and vibrant culture of Bastar remain intact for everyone to appreciate and enjoy. As part of my commitment as Tourism Secretary, I am dedicated to making a meaningful and positive impact in our communities, and I truly believe that together, we can achieve great things.

As we celebrate this achievement, I’m reminded of our commitment to sustainable tourism. Let’s continue to promote Bastar as a vibrant tourist destination while preserving its unique charm. Looking ahead, I am optimistic about what we can accomplish together and confident that our combined efforts will elevate Bastar’s tourism to new levels.
